Welcome friends

Welcome. I’m so glad you found my blog. I’m Katie, a mid forties charity worker, who lives in the middle of England with my husband and two teenage sons. In 2017 my husband, Matt, was diagnosed as autistic and subsequently with ADHD (increasingly known as AuDHD when someone has both diagnoses). It was a complete shock to us although he, and we, had often experienced difficulties due to what we now know as AuDHD. When we looked for resources to help us understand what his diagnosis meant and how we could make things better for all of us, I was dismayed to find that most materials spoke of him as if he were a child and I his parent or carer, rather than his wife. When I found posts from partners online they were often written in a way that pitted the two partners against each other with little attempt to understand and compromise. So we had to make it up ourselves as we went along. And now we want to share what we have learnt with others. I am the writer of the pair of us so the blog will come from me but we already have podcasts in the pipeline where you will hear from both of us. By no means do we have it all sorted yet but we are working on it. Hopefully the lessons we have learnt will help those of you who are starting out on this journey, whether you are in a new relationship or one of you has received a late diagnosis, and also shine a light on what it is like to be in a neurodiverse relationship for the many people who have never experienced it.
